Best Places to Honeymoon in the United States

May 10, 2023

Congratulations on your recent marriage! Now that you’re officially married, you may be wondering how best to celebrate. For many couples, that means planning a honeymoon! For couples looking for a romantic getaway within the United States, here are some of the best places to honeymoon:

Hawaii

Known for its beautiful beaches, stunning sunsets, and warm climate, Hawaii is a popular honeymoon destination for a reason. Whether you want to relax on the beach, hike to a waterfall, or try some delicious local cuisine, Hawaii has something for every couple.

NOTE: Prices do tend to be more expensive in this island state, so be sure to keep that in mind if you’re traveling on a tighter budget.

Napa Valley

If you and your partner are wine lovers, Napa Valley in California is the perfect honeymoon destination. With over 400 wineries in the area, you can spend your days sampling some of the best wines in the world, and your nights relaxing in a cozy bed and breakfast. Napa Valley has long been a top choice for a romantic getaway within the U.S.

NOTE: Napa Valley does have a small local airport with a handful of flight options, but the closest international airports are located over an hour away in the Bay Area. Something to keep in mind when planning your travels!

New York City

For couples who prefer city excursions to beach trips, New York City is the perfect choice. From Broadway shows to Michelin-starred restaurants, there’s always something to do in the city and your honeymoon is bound to be filled with excitement and adventure.

NOTE: Accommodations in New York City tend to be on the pricier side, but the city’s various boroughs make it possible to honeymoon on any budget.

San Francisco

With its iconic Golden Gate Bridge, charming neighborhoods, and world-class museums, San Francisco is a great choice for a honeymoon. Take a romantic stroll through Golden Gate Park, sample some delicious seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf, or take a ferry to Alcatraz Island.

NOTE: Get ready to walk up lots of hills! San Francisco is notoriously hilly, so it may not be ideal for couples who want to minimize walking on their trip. Driving and parking in the city can also be challenging.

Savannah

For a more laid-back honeymoon, consider Savannah, Georgia. With its charming historic district, quaint bed and breakfasts, and beautiful parks, Savannah is a great place to relax and unwind after your wedding.

NOTE: The weather in Savannah can be very hot and humid, especially during the summer months. You may consider planning your trip in another season for maximum comfort during outdoor activities.

Aspen

If you’re looking for a honeymoon destination that’s perfect for winter sports, Aspen, Colorado is a great choice. Aspen offers world-renowned ski slopes, cozy cabins, and picturesque scenery for couples seeking a romantic winter trip.

NOTE: Be mindful of visiting Aspen during the offseason — in the fall, many restaurants, shops, and hotels close, limiting your itinerary options.
