The U.S. Department of State has released the results of the 2026 Diversity Visa lottery. Out of the millions who entered the lottery, 55,000 applicants have been selected to apply for permanent resident status.
The Diversity Visa lottery (Diversity Immigrant Visa Program) is an opportunity for foreign nationals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the U.S. to obtain a green card and permanent residency in the U.S.
How to Check if You’ve Won
To find out if you’ve been selected for the 2026 DV lottery, visit the official DV Entrant Status Check on the State Department website. You’ll need the confirmation number you received when you submitted your lottery entry.
- The entry period for the FY 2026 lottery ran from October 2 to November 7, 2024.
- Results will be available through September 30, 2025.
Important:
The State Department does not notify selectees directly (either by mail or email). The only way to confirm whether you’ve been selected is through the official status check portal. Results will be available on the portal through the end of September 2025.

What Winning the DV Lottery Means
Winning the DV lottery does not automatically guarantee a green card. It means you are eligible to apply for a diversity visa, but you must still meet all U.S. immigration requirements.
To complete the process, selected applicants must:
- File Form DS-260, the immigrant visa application
- Attend a visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate
- Pay the required government filing fees
- Prove they are admissible to the United States
Act quickly:
All diversity visas must be issued by September 30, 2026. If selected, begin the application process as soon as possible to avoid missing the deadline.
