Proxy Definition

The Boundless Immigration Glossary

In U.S. immigration, a proxy refers to a person authorized to act on behalf of someone else, typically in a legal or official capacity. A proxy can represent or make certain decisions for an immigrant who may not be able to attend meetings, sign documents, or manage specific processes themselves. For instance, in some legal situations, an immigrant might appoint a proxy to sign documents or attend an interview. This person, or proxy, must follow the immigrant’s instructions and is legally accountable to act in their best interest within the allowed authority.
