The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi announced Monday the opening of an additional 250,000 visa appointments for Indian travelers. These slots cover a range of visa types, including tourist, skilled worker, and student visas.

“The recently released new slots will help hundreds of thousands of Indian applicants take timely interviews, facilitating the travel which is the backbone of the people-to-people ties that underpin the U.S.-India relationship,” the Embassy said in a statement.

The Embassy, along with four consulates across India, have already processed over one million nonimmigrant visa applications for the second consecutive year.

Record Numbers of Visa Applications and Travel

India processed a record number of U.S. student visas this summer. In 2024 alone, more than 1.2 million Indians traveled to the United States, a 35% increase compared to the same period in 2023, said the Embassy.

U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti credited the commitment of both countries’ leadership in improving the visa process. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden set an ambitious goal to improve and expedite the visa process, and I’m proud to say that we have delivered on that promise,” Garcetti said.

If you’re an Indian traveler planning to visit the United States, it’s a good idea to check appointment availability sooner rather than later, before the new appointment slots fill up. Learn more about immigrating to the U.S. from India.
