State Department Expands Interview Waivers for Nonimmigrant Visas

The U.S. Department of State updated their eligibility requirements for nonimmigrant visa interview waivers, meaning more applicants may now obtain their visas without attending an interview.

According to the new guidelines, individuals applying for non-immigrant visas, including those applying for student visas, may be eligible for a visa interview waiver if they previously issued a non-immigrant visa (excluding B visas) and are applying within 48 months of the expiration of their last visa.

DOJ Threatens to Sue Texas Over Latest Immigration Law

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has threatened to sue Texas over the state’s latest border law, Senate Bill 4, which would allow state and local law enforcement to arrest and detain any suspected undocumented immigrants.

The DOJ claims the law is unconstitutional, as immigration enforcement should fall under federal authority. Senate Bill 4 is set to take effect in March.

Biden Immigration Approval Rating Reaches Record Low

A new poll from CBS News found that just 32% of Americans approved of President Biden’s border and immigration policies, an all-time low.

The poll, conducted among 2,157 adult Americans, is widely reflective of the Biden administration’s recent struggles to manage an influx of migrants and make meaningful progress on immigration reform.

One Year On From USCIS Fee Hike Proposal

It’s now been a year since U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a proposal to increase immigration costs for nearly every visa category. New fees have yet to take effect.

Once finalized, the fee increases are likely to have a significant impact on the family and business immigration systems as a whole. Experts say the new fees could go into effect as soon as early 2024. Read more in our fee hike update post.
