Texas Troopers Told to Push Migrant Children Into Rio Grande, Report Says

Texas troopers working for Gov. Greg Abbott’s border initiative were told to push children into the Rio Grande river and deny migrants water, according to emails sent by a trooper-medic. The officer expressed concerns about the “inhumane” treatment toward migrants along the border in Eagle Pass, Texas, detailing incidents that took place between June 24 and July 1.

Nearly 70% of Americans See Immigration as a “Good Thing,” But Have Concerns

A recent poll shows that most Americans continue to support U.S. immigration, with 68% viewing immigration as a “good thing” for the country. While some concerns exist regarding the impact on crime, drugs, and taxes, the majority still prefer to maintain or increase current immigration levels. The positive perception of legal immigration is slightly higher than that of immigration in general.

Biden Administration Has Welcomed Half a Million Migrants in Under Two Years

According to unpublished government data, the Biden administration has used a 1950s law to facilitate the largest increase in legal immigration in recent U.S. history, welcoming over 500,000 migrants in less than two years. By using the immigration parole authority, officials have offered a legal and safe alternative to migrants, diverting them from the southern border and aiding in faster refugee resettlement efforts.

USCIS Releases Latest Processing Times

USCIS released the latest processing times for key forms. In Q1 of Fiscal Year 2023, the wait times improved for both Form I-485 and Form I-130. However, the processing time for Form I-129F, the first step in the K-1 fiancé visa application process, remained high.
