The Cost To Get a Green Card

Right now, the government filing fee for getting a family-based green card is $3005 for an applicant living in the United States or $1340 for an applicant living outside the United States.

However, earlier this year, USCIS announced plans to significantly increase the fees associated with green card (and most immigration) applications, making it more expensive for individuals and families to afford permanent residency in the United States.

We know that U.S. immigration is complex and often challenging, and we want to help you apply confidently.

Frequently asked questions

Green Card Cost

What is the proposed fee increase?

USCIS plans to significantly increase the fees associated with green card (and most immigration) applications. The proposed fee increases could impact your ability to afford permanent residency in the United States if you don’t plan ahead. The overall cost to adjust status, including work and travel permits could go up 130%.

When will the proposed fee changes go into effect?

The gov’t has not officially announced a specific timeline for the fee increase, however, Boundless sources estimate that the final rule will likely be announced near the end of 2023.

IMPORTANT: Because USCIS hasn’t publically finalized the rule, there is a chance it could happen sooner (or later) this year.
